Fan-Rated vs. Standard Electrical Boxes
A ceiling fan is a dynamic load. A standard electrical box is not rated for it. Installing a ceiling fan on a standard box is a safety hazard. If replacing a light with a fan, the box may need to be upgraded.
What to Have Ready
The new fixture, unboxed and with hardware organized. Confirm control method (pull chain, wall switch, remote). Ceiling height for fans. Whether the existing switch controls fan and light separately.
